Frost Your Fanny Hosts 42 Ironman Texas Hopefuls: 16 Grab Hardware

Forty-two Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas hopefuls got their 2011 multisports season started on Sunday at the annual Frost Your Fanny Duathlon held at Bear Creek Park in far west Houston.

     The duathlon featured a 3-mile run, 15-mile, 3-loop bike and a 2-mile run.
Sixteen of the 42 hopefuls took home hardware, including wins in both the men’s and women’s masters divisions.
Houston’s Andrew Strong and Salado’s Joni Moore, both 45, had solid performances as they also finished sixth and fourth overall in respective times of 1:07:20 and 1:18:35.
Salado's Joni Moore
Strong avenged last October’s loss at the Du The Bear Duathlon to The Woodlands’ Dana Lyons, 53, with a minute and 38-second win.  The two – with Strong in the lead -- were pictured (from that race) on the last cover of Runner Triathlete News last November.
The USAT South Midwest Region’s number two ranked duathlete in 2010, Moore edged Shama Cycles’ Melanie Sun of Houston by 14 seconds and Outrival Racing’s Karen Ponette-Maldonado of The Woodlands by an additional five.
Seven Ironman Texas registrants won their age groups while another three took second and four took third.
Eight male participants this May finished in the event’s top 20 racers on Sunday.
